This ongoing series of abstract works reflects my fascination with color, gesture, and process.
The clayboard substrate is slick and non-porous, facilitating broad, liquid marks with distinct sharpness and character. The dark underlayer isolates these original gestures without color bias.
From there, the works are carefully glazed with single pigments, mixing and creating colors one layer at a time on the painting rather than creating mixtures on the palette.
a Blue layer + a Yellow layer = the Green you see. Subsequent applications adjust
hue and intensity. Like watercolor, glazing means the painting can really only proceed in one direction, light to dark, if the original marks are to be preserved.

In the end, it's fair to say this series emphasizes method and execution to an extreme in
service of gesture and color.
I hope you enjoy them.
